Backing Up and Restoring Binance APP Settings (Push, Layout, Theme)

The thought of "having to set up the APP all over again" when switching phones is a headache. Which Binance APP settings sync automatically, and which must be reset manually? This note explains it all. Open the Binance Official Website directly; to download the APP, go to the Binance Official APP; for iPhone installation, check the iOS Setup Guide.

Settings That Auto-Sync to the Cloud

What restores automatically after logging into a new device:

Item Synced
Watchlist Yes
Price Alerts Yes
Positions Yes (Real-time)
KYC Status Yes
API Keys Yes
2FA Binding Yes
Address Book Yes (In some versions)
Bio / Avatar Yes
Referral Relationships Yes
VIP Level Yes

All core trading functions are fully restored automatically.

Settings Saved Locally Only

What needs to be reset on the new device:

Item Reason for Local Save
Theme (Dark / Light) Follows system, decided locally
Font Size Device-level
Notification Methods System-level permissions
Language (In some versions) Follows system
Startup Page Personal preference
Custom K-line Indicators Partially local
Default Order Quantity Local (prevents accidental usage)
Auto-login on Startup Local (security consideration)

These settings will be set to their defaults after logging into a new device; just reconfigure them to your preference.

Partially Synced Settings

Item Sync Level
K-line Timeframe Preferences Partial (Recent selections are local, frequent list is cloud)
Notification Preferences (Whether to receive certain types) Yes
Notification Methods (Sound / Vibrate / Mute) No (Local)

Some versions are gradually migrating more settings to the cloud.

The Possibility of Manual Backup

Binance officially does not provide a feature to "backup all settings to a local file". If you absolutely must back up all settings:

  • Take screenshots of key settings pages.
  • Jot down "My Preferences" with pen and paper.
  • Reconfigure them by referring to your notes after switching devices.

It sounds primitive, but it is the most reliable method.

Device Migration Process

The optimal device migration process:

  1. Old phone: Back up the Google Authenticator KEY (most important).
  2. Old phone: Screenshot the in-app settings pages.
  3. Old phone: Export recent transaction history CSV.
  4. New phone: Install the Binance APP.
  5. New phone: Log into the account + 2FA.
  6. New phone: Watchlist, APIs, and KYC restore automatically.
  7. New phone: Reset theme, fonts, and notifications according to the screenshots.

The entire process takes about 15-20 minutes.

Migrating Google Authenticator

The biggest fear is losing Google Authenticator:

  • If the old phone is still usable → Use the "Transfer Accounts" feature to scan the QR code.
  • If it's unusable → Use the previously backed up KEY to rebuild it on the new phone.
  • If you have neither → Contact customer support for recovery (takes a long time).

Backing up the KEY immediately when binding 2FA is a must-have habit.

API Key Migration

API Keys do not need to be migrated:

  • They are bound to the UID on the server-side.
  • They are visible when logged in from any device.
  • But be mindful of the API Key's IP whitelist (if configured).

KYC Data Migration

Once KYC is approved, it has nothing to do with the device:

  • The status is retained when logging in from any device.
  • There is no need to redo KYC.

Special Handling for Push Notifications

Push notifications are the easiest thing to "lose" when switching devices:

  • iOS: The device token is bound to the device, and the old token automatically expires.
  • A new token will be registered after logging into the new device.
  • However, the "Push Notification Preferences" on the APP side (whether you want price alerts, etc.) may need to be reconfigured.

Some versions will sync preferences, while others will not.

Notes on Multi-Platform Syncing

If you use the iPhone APP + Mac desktop simultaneously:

  • Watchlist, APIs, etc., will sync.
  • But themes and layouts are independent on both sides.
  • When switching between multiple accounts, their respective cookies are independent.

Theme and System Follow

Theme settings:

  • Follow system: Applied per device according to the system theme.
  • Force Dark / Light: Saved locally.

Both iPhone and Mac default to "Follow system", providing a consistent experience.

Custom K-line Indicators

If you have drawn support/resistance lines on the K-line charts:

  • Saved locally in some versions.
  • Synced to the cloud in some versions.
  • Testing method: Log into a new device and see if they are still there.

In the current version, drawings on Binance's native K-line charts tend to be local. Drawings on the embedded TradingView charts can sync.

Emergency Recovery

If the APP cannot log in during device migration (e.g., locked by risk control):

  • Log in on the web to see if the issue is the same.
  • If neither works → Contact customer support.
  • Customer support processing takes 24-72 hours.

You can view your assets via the web during this time; it's relatively limited but still operable.

Third-Party Backup Tools

Certain third-party tools attempt to manage APP configurations:

  • "Titanium Backup" on Android (requires root).
  • "iCloud Backup" on iOS (partial data).

High risk, not recommended. Binance's official sync is sufficient.

Long-Term Advice

  • Back up your Google Authenticator KEY immediately.
  • Archive screenshots of important preferences.
  • Take your time when switching devices, do not rush.
  • Don't try to migrate every single setting (many are fine at default).
