What to Do When the Binance APP Icon Grays Out After Region Switch

The most confusing phenomenon after an iOS region switch is that the perfectly fine Binance APP icon suddenly turns gray and becomes unresponsive to taps. This note breaks down the causes and solutions for three main scenarios. For full region switch steps, refer to the iOS Setup Guide; for browser access, see the Binance Official Website; for Android installation, use the Binance Official APP.

Several Meanings of a Grayed-Out Icon

There are several reasons why an icon might appear gray on iOS, each with a different meaning:

Phenomenon Meaning Fix
Gray icon + progress bar Downloading or updating Wait for download
Gray icon + "Waiting" In queue Check network
Gray icon + "Cannot Verify App" Apple ID mismatch Re-verify
Gray icon + "Paused" Apple server issue Retry
Completely gray icon + unclickable Offline mode Connect to network
Gray icon + small hourglass countdown Restricted by "Screen Time" Adjust settings

After a region switch, users most commonly encounter the third scenario. We will focus on that below.

The Root Cause of "Cannot Verify App"

iOS APPs are tied to the Apple ID used to download them. If you:

  1. Downloaded Binance using Apple ID A
  2. Logged out of Apple ID A and logged into Apple ID B
  3. Tried to open the Binance APP installed by A

iOS will detect that the APP was installed by A but the current account is B, and will require re-verification. At this point, the icon turns gray, and tapping it prompts "Cannot Verify App because you are not logged in".

Solutions

Method 1: Log Back in with the Original Apple ID to Verify

  1. Settings → Apple ID → Log in with the original Apple ID (A).
  2. After verification, log out of A and log back into B.
  3. The Binance icon will restore and can be used normally.

However, this method is tedious because you have to do it every time you switch regions.

Method 2: Re-download under the New Apple ID

  1. Uninstall the original Binance APP.
  2. Log into the App Store with the new Apple ID (B).
  3. Re-download Binance.
  4. Data will restore from the cloud (no loss of account assets).

This is the cleanest approach. All Binance data is on the server; re-downloading will not lose anything.

Method 3: Use "Family Sharing" to Share the APP Between Two IDs

  1. Settings → Family Sharing → Invite the new Apple ID to join the family.
  2. Turn on "Purchase Sharing".
  3. Both IDs can now see APPs downloaded by the other.

Suitable for users who use region switching long-term.

Best Practices After Region Switching

To avoid dealing with grayed-out icons repeatedly, we recommend:

  • Uninstall all APPs installed with the old Apple ID before switching regions.
  • Reinstall them with the new Apple ID after the switch.
  • Do not mix the old Apple ID with the new one.

APPs installed with the new Apple ID will work perfectly under that new ID and will not turn gray.

The Special Case of "Subscription APPs Turning Gray"

If you had Binance-related subscriptions (like Binance Card services) on your original Apple ID before switching, it is normal for these subscriptions to turn gray after the switch—Apple does not allow cross-region subscriptions. To handle this:

  • Switch back to the original Apple ID, cancel the subscription, then switch back again.
  • Or simply abandon the subscription and re-subscribe in the new region.

The Binance APP itself is free and has no subscriptions, so the vast majority of users will not face this issue.

Grayed Out Due to "Screen Time" Limits

Some parents enable "Screen Time" on their children's iPhones, which can lock certain APPs. Symptoms:

  • The icon is gray with an hourglass countdown in the corner.
  • Tapping it prompts "Time Limit Reached".
  • Entering the passcode temporarily unlocks it.

If this is the case, it has nothing to do with region switching; the time limit has simply been reached. Fix: Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Adjust.

Steps to Re-download from the App Store

The most straightforward recovery method:

  1. Long press the gray icon → Select "Remove App" → "Delete App".
  2. Open the App Store.
  3. Type "Binance" in the top search bar.
  4. Tap "Get" → Wait for the download to finish.
  5. Launch the APP and log into your account.

The entire process takes 1-2 minutes.

Other Minor Issues Caused by Region Switching

Phenomenon Fix
Passwords saved in iCloud Keychain fail to sync Log back into iCloud
Apple Music subscriptions turn gray Switch to old ID to cancel, re-subscribe on new ID
App Store charts change Normal, charts are region-specific
Reviews turn to English HK region mainly has English reviews
Price currency changes HK region shows HKD

The vast majority of these minor impacts do not affect your use of Binance.

FAQ

Q: How much data does re-downloading use after deleting the gray icon? A: The Binance iOS installation package is roughly 250 MB.

Q: Can I restore all grayed-out APPs in bulk? A: Not in bulk; each APP must be re-downloaded individually.

Q: Will the gray state disappear automatically? A: No, you must take action.
