Chinese Passport Rejected for Binance KYC? Common Reasons Checklist

Chinese passports are occasionally rejected during Binance KYC, and there is more than one common reason. This note lists the possible points of rejection. To enter the KYC process directly, open the Binance Official Website; to download the APP, go to Binance Official App; for iPhone installation, see the iOS Installation Tutorial.

Acceptance of Chinese Passports on Binance

Official Binance service restrictions for mainland Chinese residents (publicly stated):

  • Does not provide services directly to the mainland China region
  • However, accepts the Chinese passport as a compliant ID document
  • Primarily used by Chinese citizens who have left mainland China

In other words, the passport itself is not the reason for rejection; rejections are usually due to other factors.

Reason 1: "China" Listed as the Registration Region

The region of residence filled in during the KYC application cannot be "Mainland China". If it is:

  • The system will reject it directly
  • It will prompt "Your region is currently not supported"

Solution: Change your region of residence to the country where you are actually located (e.g., Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada).

Reason 2: Expired or Soon-to-Expire Passport

Passport validity requirements:

  • Must be valid for at least 6 more months
  • If close to expiration (< 6 months), the KYC pass rate is low
  • Expired passports are rejected directly

Solution: Renew your passport before performing KYC.

Reason 3: Non-Compliant Passport Photo

Photo quality is a common point of rejection:

Issue Solution
Severe glare Shoot in a glare-free environment
Blurry photo Use a phone with a higher-resolution camera
Incorrect angle Shoot directly from the front
Cropped edges Photograph the entire passport page
Color distortion Shoot in natural light

Binance requires the passport information page (including photo, name, and passport number) to be completely readable.

Reason 4: Selfie Mismatch

KYC selfie requirements:

  • High similarity to the passport photo
  • Liveness detection (blinking, turning the head)
  • Even lighting

Common reasons for selfie rejection:

  • Glare from wearing glasses
  • Heavy makeup leading to low facial recognition accuracy
  • Large discrepancy from the passport photo (age, hairstyle)
  • Flagged by risk control after multiple failures

Solution:

  • Take off your glasses and retake
  • Remove makeup and retake
  • Use a recent photo for comparison
  • Wait 24 hours before trying again after 3 failed attempts

Reason 5: Proof of Address Issues

KYC in some countries requires proof of address:

  • Bank statements, utility bills, government documents
  • Must be issued within the last 3 months, include the full address, and bear your name

Domestic Chinese proof of address may not be accepted in Binance KYC (for compliance reasons). If you are indeed in China and your domestic address is rejected, there is currently no simple workaround.

Reason 6: Identity Association Triggering Risk Control

If your passport was previously registered with another Binance account (even if cancelled):

  • Risk control may detect a "duplicate identity"
  • It will be automatically rejected
  • You need to contact customer service to explain

Solution: Explain the situation through customer support channels.

Reason 7: IP and Passport Country Mismatch

Risk control cross-checks the following:

  • You registered using a Chinese IP
  • But your passport is Chinese
  • The system assumes you are "using it in mainland China"

While this isn't necessarily a direct reason for rejection, it increases the time required for risk control review.

Solution: Perform KYC in a compliant network environment (your actual location).

KYC Levels and Passports

Binance KYC is divided into levels:

Level Requirements Limits
Verified Passport + Selfie Basic withdrawal limits
Verified Plus + Proof of address High withdrawal limits
Enterprise Corporate documents Institutional limits

A Chinese passport can usually complete "Verified"; "Verified Plus" requires an overseas proof of address.

Wait Time After Submission

Processing time after KYC submission:

  • Automated review: 5-30 minutes
  • Manual review: 24 hours to 7 days
  • Complex cases: May take longer

Wait patiently after submission, and do not submit again (it will be flagged as a "duplicate application").

Appeal After Rejection

After receiving a rejection email:

  1. Check the specific reason in the email
  2. Modify your information as prompted
  3. Resubmit
  4. Ensure the issue is actually fixed before resubmitting

If you are rejected three consecutive times, it is recommended to contact customer service for a manual review.

Customer Service Channels

Binance customer service paths:

  • The "Customer Service" icon in the bottom right corner of the APP
  • The dialog box in the bottom right corner of the web version
  • Help Center → Contact Us

Customer service can expedite the manual review process, but they cannot guarantee approval.

Long-term Recommendations

If you plan to use Binance long-term:

  • Hold a new passport (valid for 6+ months)
  • Use an overseas proof of address (if you have one)
  • Fill in your actual country of residence upon registration
  • Complete KYC in one go to avoid having to provide supplementary documents

Alternative Documents

Acceptable documents other than a Chinese passport:

  • Mainland Chinese ID card (in some cases, but services are not open to mainland residents)
  • Overseas residence permit / work visa
  • Overseas driver's license (some countries)
  • Hong Kong and Macau pass (limited to HK/Macau residents)

FAQ

Q: Can I use a Taiwan or Hong Kong resident document for KYC? A: Yes, as Taiwan and Hong Kong are independent legal jurisdictions, Binance accepts local ID documents from these areas.

Q: Can I change my name after passing KYC? A: In principle, no, unless you have official documentation (e.g., a notarized name change).

Q: Which passport should I use if I have dual citizenship? A: Choose the passport of your actual country of residence.

Q: Will a failed KYC affect other accounts? A: A failed facial recognition might be linked in internal records, but it will not proactively ban other accounts.
