Binance KYC Levels: Differences Between Level 1 and Verified Plus

Binance KYC is not a one-and-done deal; it is divided into multiple levels, with each level requiring different documents and offering different limits. This note clarifies the level system. To enter KYC directly, please open the Binance Official Website; to download the APP, go to Binance Official App; for iPhone installation, see the iOS Installation Tutorial.

Overview of the Level System

Binance KYC levels have changed over the years. Currently (early 2026), they are primarily divided into:

Level Name Documentation Required
0 Unverified Registration only
1 Verified Passport + Selfie
2 Verified Plus + Proof of Address
3 Enterprise Corporate Documents

The higher the number, the higher the level and the more permissions you get.

Level 0: Unverified

Just registered, no KYC done:

  • Can view market charts
  • Can create sub-accounts
  • Cannot deposit fiat
  • Cannot trade spot (partially restricted)
  • Cannot withdraw crypto

You can only look around, no major actions are allowed.

Level 1: Verified

The most common level:

  • Passport (or ID card, driver's license) scan + selfie
  • 5-30 minutes for automated review
  • Once passed, you get:
    • Full spot trading access
    • Partial futures permissions
    • Higher daily withdrawal limits (usually 2 BTC equivalent)
    • Fiat deposits (depending on the region)

For the vast majority of users, reaching "Verified" is sufficient.

Level 2: Verified Plus

Advanced level:

  • Based on Verified + proof of address
  • Proof of address requires utility bills, bank statements, or government documents issued within the last 3 months
  • Must include your name + full address
  • Once passed, you get:
    • Increased withdrawal limits (e.g., 100 BTC equivalent)
    • Full derivatives permissions
    • Large-volume fiat trading
    • VIP tier accumulation

Suitable for users executing large-volume transactions.

Level 3: Enterprise

Institutional level:

  • Company registration documents
  • Legal representative identification
  • Beneficial owner information
  • Applicable to funds, hedge funds, market makers, etc.

Not applicable to ordinary individual users.

Level Upgrade Path

The usual progression:

  • Upon registration → Level 0
  • Complete basic verification → Level 1
  • Submit proof of address → Level 2
  • Submit corporate documents → Level 3

Each level is cumulative, not a replacement.

Limit Comparison

Differences in withdrawal and fiat deposit limits (specific numbers may change, for reference only):

Level Daily Withdrawal Limit Daily Fiat Deposit Limit
Level 0 0 0
Level 1 2 BTC equivalent 50,000 USDT equivalent
Level 2 100 BTC equivalent 200,000 USDT equivalent
Level 3 Negotiated Negotiated

Actual limits depend on regional compliance requirements.

Restrictions for Chinese Passport Users

Chinese passports can achieve Verified (Level 1), but Verified Plus (proof of address) is more difficult:

  • Domestic proof of address may not be accepted
  • Overseas proof of address requires an overseas bank account or residence permit

If you are just a regular user, Verified is sufficient.

Process to Upgrade to Verified Plus

  1. In APP or Web → User Center → Verification → Verified Plus
  2. Upload proof of address (utility bill within the last 3 months, etc.)
  3. Wait 24-72 hours for review
  4. Approved / Rejected

Common reasons for rejection:

  • The document is older than 3 months
  • The document lacks a complete address
  • The document does not show your name
  • The document is blurry

Downgrades and Re-verification

Once a KYC level is obtained, it will not be automatically downgraded. However:

  • If providing false information is discovered → Forced downgrade back to Level 0 + account freeze
  • Long-term inactive accounts → Some regions' compliance requires re-verification
  • Voluntarily cancelling the account → Level resets to zero

Regional Differences

Due to compliance differences, level requirements vary by region:

  • Europe (MiCA compliant): Proof of address is almost mandatory
  • US: A separate binance.us system
  • Asia: Moderately strict
  • Middle East: Lenient

Doing KYC with a Chinese passport in Europe is stricter than in Asia.

Differences Between VIP Level and KYC Level

Easy to confuse:

  • KYC Level: Compliance level (completeness of documentation)
  • VIP Level: Trading volume tier (30-day trading volume)

The two are independent. Even if you are Verified Plus, your VIP level remains 0; you must trade to upgrade your VIP tier.

Long-term Recommendations

  • Reach at least the Verified level
  • Only upgrade to Verified Plus if you truly need large-volume operations
  • Do not upload forged documents just to "upgrade"
  • The consequences of forging documents are severe (account ban + inability to withdraw assets)

Sub-account KYC

Binance sub-accounts:

  • Sub-accounts can share the main account's KYC status
  • Sub-accounts themselves do not undergo independent KYC
  • However, some advanced features may still require it

Situations Requiring KYC Re-verification

Re-verification is needed in a few scenarios:

  • Name change (e.g., after marriage)
  • Change of nationality
  • The old KYC process is deprecated, requiring a resubmission
